In 2010:

  • Children’s Services served nearly 16,000 children.
  • The 241-KIDS child abuse hotline received more than 66,000 calls.
  • Every day nearly 15 new cases of abuse and neglect were investigated.
  • More than 2,000 children were cared for outside their homes.

 

Children’s Services helps 1 in 13 Hamilton County children.
The RENEWAL of this levy will generate $39 million annually to fund critical services for abused and neglected children.

  • The Children’s Services levy serves local children who are abused and neglected.
  • The levy is a RENEWAL and has been at the same 2.77 millage for the last 15 years.
  • It pays for services that are mandated by the federal and state government. If the levy does not pass, those services are paid for from the county General Fund.

Why the Children’s Service Levy Matters:
The levy is critical to supporting the system of public and private agencies protecting disadvantaged children of Hamilton County.

The agencies include:

  • HCJFS Children’s Services, Child Support Services, and Public Assistance
  • Hamilton County Juvenile Court
  • Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office
  • Private and public child-serving agencies (such as foster placement, mental health services, emergency housing, training, parenting services)
